Ultra Pixel rumours are wild but Google is only launching Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL on October 4

Just days before Google launches the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL on October 4, there is a wild new rumour going around. This rumour suggests that not only Google will launch the two regular Pixel phones next week, it will also launch a new phone called Ultra Pixel. This will be the top-end pixel phone and that it will compete with the recently-announce iPhone X.
The rumour comes courtesy Android Police, which was apparently tipped off by someone unknown who shared three slides taken from a Google presentation about the Ultra Pixel. This is all according to the reports. But this whole bit about the Ultra Pixel — although, the name is cool — sounds so implausible that even Android Police is not convinced. More significantly, after the reports of the Ultra Pixel surfaced, people who are part of this “leaks” circle such as Evan Blass of @evleaks fame were quick to dismiss it. In other words the Ultra Pixel came out of blue and it is almost certainly a prank.
But yet spread like wildfire, especially on the sites that write about the Android phones. The reason was simple: The Ultra Pixel appeals to Android phones. This is the phone they want, even if it doesn’t exist and it looks like a device that could take on the iPhone X in terms buzz and technologies inside it.
As we have heard again and again, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are going to evolutionary updates to the Pixel and the Pixel XL that were launched last year. They will have improved hardware but the design is going to be similar. Instead of hardware, Google is focussing more on the software inside Pixel this time. This is the reason why people excited when they heard of the Ultra Pixel.
According to the (probably fake) information leaked to Android Police, the Ultra Pixel is supposed to have a bezel-less screen, like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. It is also likely to come with a new thinner design, a dual-camera, a display that best in industry and a camera with large pixels. Basically, ultra pixels all the way, in camera and on the screen.
The rumours also appealed because we already know that Ultra Pixel is a trademark for technology that HTC uses in its high-end phones. And recently, Google and the HTC announced a deal that among other things give Google non-exclusive access to technologies like the Ultra Pixel.
But that is not happening. None of it is happening on Google’s Pixel event on the October 4. Instead, on October 4 Google is going to launch the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL that will have fairly high-end hardware but a design very similar to that of the existing Pixel phones. And no, neither the Pixel 2 nor the Pixel 2 XL will have dual-cameras or the bezel-less screens.

Although, apart from the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, Google may launch a couple of other products at the same event. It is expected that Google may launch an updated VR Daydream headset, a new high-end Chromebook called PixelBook and a new cheaper Google Home speaker at the same Pixel launch event.
